Auger Torque becomes truly global with the Lake Ellsworth project

Auger Torque’s world beating products are now in use on ALL of the world’s continents after one of the company’s Earth Drills was used to bore through the ice as part of the Lake Ellsworth exploration project in Antarctica.

In January, BBC News showed the latest images of the company’s products taking a lead role in what is considered to be the most important geological survey of the sub-continent in decades; unlocking the secrets of the hidden Lake Ellsworth from beneath the polar ice cap.

The 5000TC was chosen by the British Antarctic Survey for its reliability in extremely demanding conditions.

Steve White, Head of Vehicles Engineering for the British Antarctic Survey said “Accessing Lake Ellsworth is a fantastic opportunity to unlock the biological secrets of this vast continent. Being so remote and having only a narrow window of opportunity to sample the lake means we need to know that the equipment will be 100% reliable.” Today, Auger Torque has equipment working in the full spectrum of temperatures experienced on all seven continents.

Alistair Brydon from Auger Torque Europe Ltd said “We were pleased to be asked to help in this very important exploration project. Our research and development facility in the UK ensures our products are built to the highest standards and the British Antarctic Survey’s choice confirms the confidence we place in our product.”
