The Gold Coast 600, held annually on the streets of Surfers Paradise, lived up to it's reputation of being one of the most popular rounds of the Australian V8 Supercar series. Being a big supporter of motorsport Auger Torque had a number of affiliated drivers and teams competing during last weekends race.
Firstly a huge congrats has to go Auger Torque backed driver Craig Baird on securing a world record-equaling fifth Carrara Cup Championship in the Australian leg of the series. Bairdo, widely regarded as the most successful driver of the one-make series in the world, managed to win the championship in his 50th Carrera Cup round, finishing the season with 972.5points ahead of Percat (937), with Warren Luff (883) third.
“I really pushed hard at the beginning of the season and got some good results which meant that I could roll off the gas a little bit here,” said Baird.
Another extremely busy driver was Warren Luff. Coming of a third place finish at Bathurst and a third place in the Auger Torque Nemo-Racing.com Evo the following weekend at World Time Attack Challenge in Sydney, Luffy managed to win the inaugural Pirtek Enduro Cup alongside Red Bull Racing's Craig Lowndes. Luffy has to be one of biggest talents Australia currently has on offer as he also managed to come third in the Carrera Cup series driving the McElrea RacingNo Second Chance (N2C) Porsche. A huge effort and a massive congrats from the Auger Torque team.
Lastly the Auger Torque Aussie Racing Cars driven by Anthony Chemello and Allen Smith put an awesome show all weekend competing in the huge 50 car strong field. The Aussie Racing Cars always provide for plenty of tight racing as well as the odd spectacular shunt and the Gold Coast 600 did not disappoint in any of these regards. Both Anthony and Allen managed to have very good performance all weekend and are currently placing 12th and 16th in the Masters Cup with one more round to go before the 2013 series draws to a close at Homebush on December 6-8th.
